Business leaders of Bangladesh have called upon the Indian traders to increase the import of goods from Bangladesh equivalent to at least one billion dollars. The call was made at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) held at its office at Mohakhali in the city with Abdul Matlub Ahmad in the chair on Sunday. Business leaders also underscored the need for developing better and more effective trade and commercial relations between the two next door neighbors. The AGM was addressed among others by Chief Executive Officer of HSTC Limited and Vice President of IBCCI M Shoeb Chowdhury, former president of IBCCI Taskeen Ahmed and Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dr Adarsh Swaika. M Shoeb Chowdhury, newly elected Vice President of IBCCI stressed the need for further enhancing business ties between Bangladesh and India for greater benefits of both countries.He urged for joint efforts by both the countries to boost up initiatives for economic emancipation of both nations for mutual growth. Dr Adarsh Swaika said that India would do everything for expanding trade and commercial activities with Bangladesh. He said visa and other problems faced by Bangladeshi businessmen would be minimized in future.Former president of IBCCI Taskeen Ahmed thanked all the directors and officials of IBCCI for offering cooperation during his tenure to uplift trade activities between Bangladesh and India. Abdul Matlub Ahmad, President of IBCCI said the he would strengthen the activities of IBCCI to meet the growing challenges faced by both countries. He called for issuing multiple visas for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs for increasing trade with India. Abdul Matlub Ahmad also emphasized on offering five years multiple visas for the Indian businessmen who are doing trade with Bangladesh. He said that 16 separate sub-committees would be formed to be headed by IBCCI leaders to represent the country to explore business prospects in India.Earlier, a 19-member committee of IBCCI was elected with Nitol-Niloy Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmad as President. Chief Executive Officer of HSTC Limited M Shoeb Chowdhury and Asian Consumer Care (Pvt) Limited’s Country Manager Sanjoy Kailash Munshi were elected Vice Presidents. Other office bearers of the committee are :Sanjib Kumar Roy (General Secretary), Md Abdul Wahed (Joint Secretary), Dewan Sultan Ahmed(Treasurer & former vice president FBCCI), and 13 executive members are Avijit Chakroborty (State Bank of India), Mohammad Ali (Former IBCCI president & ex senior vice president FBCCI), Sanjoy Paul (MRB Bangladesh Private Limited), Jetandra Bahadur(Tata Motors Limited), Farkhunda Zabin Khan (MAKS A Limited), Abhishek Das (Indofield Bangladesh Industries Private Limited), Arup Dasgupta (Life Insurance Corporation BD Limited), Meherunnesa Islam (Conference and Exhibition Management Services Limited), Tanveer Ahmed( Green Textile Limited), and Bhenugopal Nambikaril Chhelappan Pillai(CEAT Limited). Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsha Bardhan Sringla is the chief patron of IBCCI. After the AGM the newly elected office bearers of IBCCI held a board meeting with Abdul Matlub Ahmad in the chair at its new office.
