Khaleda likely to start election campaign from Sylhet

TRIBUNAL DESK: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia is likely to start her party’s election campaign from Sylhet before a special court pronounces its verdict in a graft case against her.

“Our Chairperson is likely to visit Sylhet on Monday to offer fateha at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R),” BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain told.

Meanwhile, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said they are making such plan but it is not confirmed yet.

“We shall formally inform media shortly about our decision”, he added.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks during party national executive committee’s daylong meeting at Hotel Le Meridian in the morning.

The Special Court-5 in Dhaka on Thursday fixed February 8 to deliver its verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case filed against Khaleda and five others.

Khaleda will be disqualified for the next general election if she is convicted in the case.
