RU students submit memorandum to VC for Rucsu polls

(UNB) – Rajshahi University (RU) students on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to university Vice-chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan demanding immediate election to the RU Central Students’ Union (Rucsu).

RU Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Saha received the memorandum on behalf of the VC.

“It’s not an easy process to hold the Rucus election. The government intervention is needed to arrange the polls,” Prof Ananda Kumar said while receiving the memorandum.

Earlier on Friday, the students launched a mass signature campaign which continued till Monday.

On December 13, around 100 students of the university held a candle-lit programme at the university’s central Shaheed Minar demanding the Rucsu election.

They also vowed to continue their movement until the university authorities take any effective step to hold the polls.

The leaders and activists of Progressive Students’ Alliance, a platform of four left-leaning student organisations of the university, expressed their solidarity with the student movement.

Meanwhile, the agitating students will hold an open discussion on December 24 on the campus over the Rucus election.
